Is the US targeting Solana devs in Russia with crypto 'infostealers'?

Russian Solana devs are being targeted by “infostealer” malware, possibly deployed by US state-sponsored actors, according to research by software supply chain security firm, Safety.  The findings, published by Safety’s Head of Research Paul McCarty, led to speculation from security news outlet The Register, that it could point to an attempt from the US to disrupt Kremlin-linked ransomware gangs. According to McCarthy’s research, a threat actor using a cryptocurrency-focused “infostealer” dubbed “Solana-scan” has been targeting Solana community members with Russian IPs. The malicious packages, “solana-pump-test” and “solana-spl-sdk,” were uploaded to the JavaScript registry NPM by someone with the username “cryptohan.” They pretend to scan “for Solana SDK components” while stealing data on crypto credentials and owned tokens.  “Cryptohan” is a popular moniker in the crypto community and was presumably chosen to give the malware...

BRICS member Russia is discussing implementing ideas of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) for the ruble to be used as budget payments for its citizens and businesses. The move will help localize the digital ruble making citizens and businesses use the currency widely. Russia aims to reduce dependency on the US dollar and popularize the Ruble in both the local and global markets. The country is leading the de-dollarization agenda with BRICS and now wants to make the CBDC Ruble gain popularity. BRICS member Russia is using all methods to bypass the US sanctions to keep its economy afloat. In the latest advancement to safeguard its economy, BRICS country Russia has officially signed a law to use digital assets for trade settlements. Digital Financial Assets (DFAs) will be used to settle cross-border transactions and currencies like the US dollar will not be incorporated. Russian crypto miner held hostage on Christmas day

A Russia n crypto miner was reportedly kidnapped on Christmas day and was told he would be framed for drug Crime s if a 15 million ruble ($164,000) ransom wasn’t paid. The events were reported by Russia n news outlet Ren TV. The 23-year-old was kidnapped outside his home in Izhevsk and bundled into a car by three men, reports say. The kidnappers drove to an unknown location before calling the victim’s brother on Telegram, demanding over 15 million rubles in exchange for his freedom. The men reportedly threatened to frame the victim by planting drugs and handing him over to the police if the brother failed to comply. According to the outlet, one of the kidnappers is said to have known the hostage personally.
