Image
Cointelegraph Accelerator, Animoca Brands, BGA, Metaera, Cipholio and Sandbox the second Gaming Demo Day to showcase seven new projects from the Web3 gaming space. Web3 gaming has become one of the hottest trends in the tech world, and not without a good reason. Using blockchain technology to give more control to gamers turned out to be a fascinating idea and catapulted Web3 gaming to the main stage of Web3 space. Web3 gaming applies key principles of blockchain technology - including decentralization, true ownership and community - to video games. Blockchain has enabled the creation of concepts such as play-to-earn (P2E), nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and more to cater to the needs of true players who don’t want to escape exploitation by the Web2 monopoly. The fast growth of Web3 gaming, however, makes it hard to track the most promising projects and chart the map of the blockchain-based gaming ecosystem. To provide a reliable perspective on Web3 gaming, Cointelegraph Accelerator has ...

Ethscriptions vs Ordinals: a deep dive into the new web3 phenomena

Ethscriptions and Ordinals may change how we interact with blockchain technology. Discover how they work and their impacts on the world of crypto. In January 2023, the introduction of Bitcoin Ordinal Inscriptions (Ordinals) significantly impacted the web3 space. These inscriptions have already left their mark by inspiring projects to expand from Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) to Bitcoin (BTC).  Yet, hot on the heels of Ordinals’ success, a new contender has emerged: Ethscriptions. Launched by Tom Lehman, co-founder of Genius.com, Ethscriptions are rapidly gaining momentum, with over several thousand Ethscriptions generated since their June 17 debut. Important Ethscriptions Update We broke records this weekend, hitting volume beyond anything I expected! At this pace, Ethscriptions may be the fastest growing protocol of all time… To help scale to this unprecedented volume we are making some significant changes to our… — Middlemarch (@dumbnamenumbers) June 26, 2023 ...

Watch out Ordinals, 30,000 ‘Ethscriptions’ land on Ethereum

Inspired by Bitcoin Ordinals inscriptions, Ethscriptions offer a new way to mint NFTs on Ethereum. Ethereum users have been given another way to create nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and other digital assets on the blockchain with the launch of a new protocol. Launched on June 17 the protocol, dubbed “Ethscriptions,” is a nod to the Bitcoin (BTC) Ordinals protocol — where assets are known as “inscriptions.” Ethscriptions was developed by music website Genius.com co-founder Tom Lehman, who uses the pseudonym Middlemarch on Twitter. Lehman declared the project a “huge success” in a series of tweets on June 17 and noted nearly 30,000 Ethscriptions had been created within the first 18 hours of the protocol going live. With almost 30k Ethscriptions in <18 hours, the launch was a huge success! Thank you for seeing the massive potential here! I am on Ethscriptions 24/7, but I need your help! Neal Stephenson on the metaverse: ‘It's happening in a different way’

Image
Author Neal Stephenson said that many Web3 problems come from projects wanting to financialize everything very quickly. Bestselling author Neal Stephenson spoke with Cointelegraph at the Paris Blockchain Week 2023, discussing various topics, including problems within the current Web3 ecosystem and the metaverse — a term Stephenson coined in his 1992 book titled Snow Crash.  According to Stephenson, many of the current problems within the space come from people wanting to "financialize everything too fast." Stephenson pointed out that many see the goal of getting lots of money and are eager to get to it. This leads to skipping over important steps that are necessary. The writer explained that:  “You know, financial institutions emerged slowly over time out of existing markets, and businesses that were functional, and they were making money for people. And then, over time, people constructed banks and stock markets and so on.” According to the author, this approach skips a ve...
